What is glycerin?

Also known as glycerol, glycerin is a natural compound derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. It's one of the most commonly used ingredients in skincare.

Is glycerin good for skin?

Glycerin is great at preventing dryness while protecting and reinforcing the skin barrier. It attracts moisture to the upper layer of the skin, plus it's also an incredibly effective moisturiser when used in a cleanser.

What is glycerin used for?

Glycerin is an emollient, meaning it can soften skin, so it's best used for dry skin when combined with other ingredients. This is why you'll find it in so many of our hydrating creams such as our Hyaluron-Filler, Aquaphor, AtoControl range and even in our sun care.

Is glycerin safe?

Glycerin is safe to use in skincare. It's safer to use it in a product as opposed to diluting the pure form.

Since glycerin is a natural product there’s always the possibility of an allergic reaction. Stop using the product if you experience itching, redness or a rash.

Is glycerin vegan?

There are generally two types; glycerin derived from animal fats is not vegan, but vegetable glycerin is 100% vegan. Check the ingredients list to see which type of glycerin is used.
