Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, also known as avobenzone, is used for the formulation of sun protection. It’s the only chemical sunscreen that provides sufficient UVA protection. Unprotected exposure to UVA can damage the DNA of your skin cells and produce mutations or genetic defects that can cause skin cancer.

Is butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane safe?

Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane was tested by the Food and Drug Administration, approving its use in sunscreen products. The European Commission’s Scientific Committee for Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products also confirmed that sunscreen products don't negatively affect the human health.

Is butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane good for skin?

Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane is healthy for the skin as it protects the skin and scalp from sun damage by absorbing UVA and UVB rays.

However, studies have shown that extended exposure to the sun while using products with butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane on a regular basis should be avoided.
